Jordon's blog
So i've got this bad habit of surfing without a purpose. Maybe I'm developing ADD but if i sit down at my computer without a destination in mind I'll instinctively click and go to one of these 5 websites:
Steep and Cheap: This site you legitimately need to check often if you are actually interested in the stuff. They are one of those one deal at a time sites that sells something until it sells out and then puts up another item. It basically the internet marketing model that is sweeping the country. The problem with internet shopping is there are WAY TOO MANY options on what to spend your money on. People are intimidated by the size of their decision and just don't buy anything. That's why we are seeing all these deal of the day sites. Also, the Genius sidebar in iTunes. The whole point is to ELIMINATE the vast amount of options you have. The problem i have with it is that it works! Holy shoot does it work! And i'm a REALLY bad compulsive buyer. I bought these Sunglasses off steep and cheap at 3am... The next morning; I thought they were the most stupid things i had ever seen...
Twitter: This one is probably the worst because its bored people looking at what other bored people are doing. Seriously, this is the whole idea. "Reading some email then going to grab some cereal." OMG, THATS A GREAT IDEA. I COULD EAT CEREAL TO FEND OFF MY BORDEM.
NYTimes.com: Ok, so this is a habit that i developed during the election. I became OBSESSED with current events, and in particular, politics. NOW, not so much. There is a lot going on in the world and I'm interested to an extent, but i check this website out of habit. Not because i actually want to know what is going on. I black out while on my computer and BAM, new york times is on my screen. Just like that.
Apple.com: This is the habit im actually trying to get rid of. Apple updates their site maybe once every 3 months. I check it about 10 times a day... Not a productive use of my time. This is the oldest of my OCD websites. I've been doing this since I became an apple fanatic when like 12. I was an apple geek when it was a very exclusive club made up of girls, gay guys, and graphic designers... Let's just say i got a lot of shit for it when i was in middle school...
NorthCoast Forum: This might be the site i check the most often of the 5. I'm actually glad that i don't know how to check how many times i visit a certain website, because if i did... i would probably scream, barf on my computer, and check myself into rehab. No joke. I actually get mad when people don't post. And i think I'm on a completely different sleeping schedule than the rest of the staff (probably because they have real jobs), which makes it even worse. Because during those 2 hours in which i check the forum 50 times between 1am and 3am, I'm just getting more pissed that they haven't responded to my question that posted at 12am.
Thats it. Those are my 5. Sometimes if I'm really bored I'll just cycle between the 5 until i get pissed and go watch MSNBC.
